Manikrao Munde is one of the best known pakhawaj player of India. He received his training from well known teachers that include Bhakta Ganesh Anna Chaudhari, Satish Chandra Chaudhari, Mridangacharya Pandit Mahant Amarnath Mishra and Govindrao Deshmukh. He has accompanied many well known artistes such as Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, Zia Fariuddin Dagar, the Gundecha brothers, and Uday Bhawalkar.

He has been on the faculty of Indira Kalasangit Vidyalaya at Khairagarh in India.
